Discover the art of Batik —an ancient technique of wax-resist dyeing — in a hands-on two-day workshop hosted by Kitty at the beautiful Wakelyns Farm.
Inspired by her recent research trip to Southeast Asia, where she studied with the Hmong tribe, Kitty will guide you through creating your own batik art piece. The Hmong are renowned for their traditional processing of hemp for textiles and their intricate batik designs. You will create your own batik artwork using beeswax, traditional tools like Tjantings, and natural dyes on hemp cloth.
Course Details:
✨ Day One: Learn about Hmong hemp batik textiles, dye your hemp fabric with a base color, and draw your design in preparation for the wax application next week.
✨ Day Two: Apply wax to your design, dye the cloth, and remove the wax to reveal your beautiful, one-of-a-kind batik artwork!
Lunch is provided—enjoy a delicious, locally-sourced meal featuring organic produce from the farm, including scrumptious homemade cakes and bread from Wakelyn’s onsite bakery.
All materials (hemp fabric, beeswax, dyes, and tools) are included in price.
📝 Cost: £200
