Our willow and hazel tree lines are coppiced on a short cycle (3 and 7 years respectively) to produce lengths which are used for fencing, for thatching, for hedge laying and for weaving, with what is left being chipped as fuel for the biomass boiler which heats the Wakelyns farmhouse and provides our hot water. Here are some pictures. We’ve also supplied hazel poles for use in heritage building restoration – replicating traditional building techniques – here in a Grade II listed house in nearby Cratfield.
