✨ Day 1:
Kickstart your creative journey by designing a tapestry using natural materials. Learn how to dye yarn (hemp, flax, and wool) with traditional dye plants, unlocking the beautiful, rich tones nature offers.

✨ Day 2:
Put your new skills to the test! Using the yarn you dyed, you’ll learn basic weaving and tapestry techniques, creating a unique design that reflects your personal style.
Lunch is provided—enjoy a delicious, locally-sourced meal featuring organic produce from the farm, including scrumptious homemade cakes and bread from Silva Kitchen and Bakery at Wakelyns.
All materials are included, from the natural dyes to yarns, teas, and coffees. Plus, you’ll take home your very own handmade wooden frame loom to continue your weaving journey!

Batik Workshop on Hemp Cloth with Kitty at Wakelyns

Discover the art of Batik — an ancient technique of wax-resist dyeing — in a hands-on two-day workshop hosted by Kitty at the beautiful Wakelyns.
Inspired by her recent research trip to Southeast Asia, where she studied with the Hmong tribe, Kitty will guide you through creating your own batik art piece. The Hmong are renowned for their traditional processing of hemp for textiles and their intricate batik designs, You will create your own batik artwork using beeswax, traditional tools like Tjantings, and natural dyes on hemp cloth.
Course Details:
✨ Day One: Learn about Hmong hemp batik textiles, dye your hemp fabric with a base color, and draw your design in preparation for the wax application next week.

✨ Day Two: Apply wax to your design, dye the cloth, and remove the wax to reveal your beautiful, one-of-a-kind batik artwork!
