These are the instructions for people who are booked to stay in a Ley Alley Pod at Wakelyns
Please also see the general instrutions for staying at Wakelyns, here; and our Tourist Information (with pubs etc) here.
Thank you for coming to stay in a Wakelyns Ley Alley Pod. We hope you have a lovely time.
Our Ley Alley Pods are part of the organic rotation at Wakelyns. Each year they are in different alleys as the crop pattern is changed. Within the year, we move them within the ley alleys (between tree lines 38 and 56) so that they never compromise the fertility building ley.
Please look after the pod and its contents.
Please let us know promptly about any damage or breakage, or about anything which is not working properly.
Our general visitor terms and conditions also apply, as set out here. Please draw that to the attention of all of your party.
Linen and towels
We will provide all bedding and towels. If you need more of anything, please ask.
Facilities in your pod
Your pod has two double beds, in a bunk configuration.
Heating in your pod
The pods are very well insulated so, for most of the year, you should not need any heating. But, for the winter, each has a small electric radiator. They have a thermostat so you can set your desired temperature. Please turn them down when you go out and at night, to save electricity. Because the pods are small and well insulated, they should not take long to warm up when you turn the thermostat up.
Electricity in your pod
The power to your pod is supplied by a blue cable over the ground. Please be careful of it.
The main power switch for the pod is by the floor on the left of the door as you come in. The neon light on the switch should glow to show all is well.
The pod is fully equipped with 13A sockets. The supply is sufficient for the kettle, or a hairdryer, or (if you need it in the winter) the heater. But not necessarily all at once (or the fuse will blow). So please be careful. If the power goes off please let us know.
Water in your pod
The water to your pod is supplied by pipes over the ground. Please be careful of them. If you spot a leak please let us know.
Within the pod, the sink has hot and cold water.
The water in the pod is fine to drink.
Toilets
The pod toilet is a cassette style toilet. That means that everything you put into the toilet is held in the small tank below the toilet until it is emptied by someone. The tank has capacity for up to about two days of use before it needs emptying.
Please check (by looking down the hole!) if it is looking to fill up, or if the red light comes on. You must let us know if that is the case, and you must stop using it until it has been emptied.
You can make it last longer between fills by giving only short flushes, and by using the fixed toilets in the shower block by the office.
There are detailed instructions on how to use the toilet in the pod. Please make sure you understand them. Any questions, let us know.
Please don’t put anything like sanitary products down the toilet. Please use the sanitary bags and bins.
The outdoor kitchen
In the farmyard is our shared outdoor ‘summer’ kitchen. It is for your use along with other people living and staying at Wakelyns.
For more information about it, please see our general “Your stay at Wakelyns” leaflet.
Showers and ‘proper’ toilets
Between the office and Bakery is our small shower/toilet block. Feel free to use them. Please keep them clean.
WiFi
There is fairly good mobile phone coverage at Wakelyns, at least for EE and Vodafone, each of which get 4G and 5G in some areas.
There is also a WiFi mesh throughout the Wakelyns house and yard areas: “Wakelyns Guest”. It does not need a password. But we are at the end of a long copper wire from our Broadband Fibre ‘cabinet’, so it is not super-fast, and particularly when lots of people are using it. Sometimes we turn it off for a few hours if it is overloaded.
Dogs
Dogs are welcome at Wakelyns provided they stay on a lead and use poo bags outside.
Beware the cat!
Food and other activities at Wakelyns
If you would like to book any food from Lindsay and Nicola at Silva Kitchen & Bakery at Wakelyns please email silva@wakelyns.co.uk. Please given them plenty of notice.
If you would like to book any bespoke activities during your stay with any of the other enterprises based at Wakelyns, then please contact us.
And there may well be fruit picking and other things happening around the farm to join in with as suits.
Any questions?
Do please ask.
Also please let us know if anything on these instructions was not clear or we could add more – that way we can improve things for future guests.
We look forward to welcoming you.
