BUILDING SOIL HEALTH, CARBON AND RESILIENCE
A two-day course for farm advisors and farmers in protected landscapes in England
FARM-ED HAVE FREE PLACES AT WAKELYNS (EAST) and HAMPTON ESTATE (SOUTH EAST) EVENTS (ALL OTHERS NOW FULLY BOOKED!)
This two-day course has been designed for farm advisors in protected landscapes in England. It is delivered by FarmED and agroecological consultant, Niels Corfield, and organised by the National Association for AONBs in partnership with support from Natural England. Six regional events are planned for spring 2023 across landscape and farming types. The course is open to farm advisors and farmers who work in AONBs and National Parks.
The training is aimed at those with an intermediate level of knowledge of soils although beginners as well as more experienced participants will find it useful. There will be opportunities for each cohort to share knowledge, their challenges in the field.
By the end of the two days, participants will be more confident and competent, with an enhanced understanding of:

3) Measuring soil health in the field using practical and visual soil tests
4) Regenerative agriculture and the six soil health principles
5) Using grazing livestock to improve soil health and resilience
6) Soil health and nutrient management
7) The role of carbon calculators, codes and trading
Throughout the two days we shall link the sharing of practical knowledge and skills with exploration of:
1) Soils in protected landscapes and delivery of the range of environmental services
2) How advisers can work more closely with farmers and landowners to help make better land use and land management choices
3) Where to turn to for additional support, information and funding
