Learn to make a bee skep at Wakelyns – Friday 15th March 2024 9.30am
Chris Park, master skeppist, will teach us to craft an iconic straw skep, and all about skep bee keeping.
You will leave with about half of your skep done, and with all the tools, materials and skills to finish it. Cost: £95 for the day, including a delicious Wakelyns Bakery Lunch
Straw skep weaving, March 15th 2024
Chris Park is a master skeppist, and skep beekeeper, who lives on an organic farm in the Vale of the White Horse, Oxfordshire. He explores ancient technologies, experimental archaeology and runs educational courses which include raising awareness of the heritage of beekeeping. He is also part of the Nest Collective.
Chris will teach us to craft a straw skep – the ancient, iconic beehive depicted at Britannia’s feet on Bank of England notes. Chris will bring his own organic straw for us to work with (in future we hope to use Wakelyns straw).
You will leave with about half of your skep done, and with all the tools, materials and skills to finish your skep at home, and the knowledge of how to welcome bees to it.
The cost is £95 for the day, including a delicious Wakelyns Bakery Lunch.
