Row Zero

Most of the willow in Willow Field is of a variety best suited to biomass production. So it’s great for chipping to produce fuel for our boiler – see here for stuff about energy at Wakelyns.

And it’s also great for structural willow weaving to make fences, hedges, arches and even elephants!

BUT, it’s no good for baskets and the like.

So, with help from Adam and Emma at Willow Phoenix, we are growing a selection of lovely coloured weaving varieties of willow in Row Zero.

The idea is that, rather than be forced to use dried willow stems that have been soaked to soften for weaving, folks can come to Wakelyns and weave baskets and other things out of fresh willow they have cut themselves, there and then.

They are also now growing chairs!
