Food stories and words

We love words! We think they are as beautiful, as powerful and as fundamental as food. Here we share stories from our friends, poems and other words, to contribute to an exciting narrative which has already begun, for a more fulfilling food and growing future for all. We hope you enjoy them. If you would like to share any words with us, please do get in touch.

Wednesday 10th March 2021 Like the Trees

Stay grounded, like the trees. Anchor your feet, spread your roots. You are of the Earth, she supports you.

Reach up, like the trees. You are of the cosmos, magic.

Spread your branches, open your arms, open your heart to all Beings, like the trees.

Let go of judgement, like the trees.

Move, flex, dance, sway, breathe, like the trees. Your breath connects to the circles of life, to Nature, forever changing and growing, but always remaining

Constant.

There is no time, there is only Now, like the trees.

Stand tall, stand strong, like the trees.

Be peaceful, be patient, be playful, like the trees.

Be you.

Thursday 25th February 2021 – A poem to celebrate our new website and getting closer to finishing the bakery building

Like you I

love love, life, the sweet smell

of things, the sky-blue

landscape of January days.

And my blood boils up

and I laugh through eyes

that have known the buds of tears

I believe the world is beautiful

and that poetry, like bread, is for everyone.

And that my veins don’t end in me

but in the unanimous blood

of those who struggle for life,

love,

little things,

landscape and bread,

the poetry of everyone.

Roque Dalton 1935 – 1975. Translated by Jack Hirschman
