Summer Solstice 21 June 2022: Honouring the light within

Artist and yoga teacher Laurie Nouchka will guide us through an evening of ceremony which will include movement, words, breathing and making followed by some nourishing, communal, summer celebratory food and drinks from the Wakelyns Bakery team.

The Summer solstice on June 21st 2022 reminds us to celebrate the nourishing light of the Sun and the light within each of us. It marks a day to rest in the abundant, light fuelled energy of the start of summer. During the Summer solstice, the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky and gives us our longest day of the year. This point marks the second phase of the Earth’s journey around the Sun, which starts with the Spring Equinox. Energetically, it is very parallel to the First Quarter Moon, which signifies a time to nourish the seeds planted in the first phase.

Summer is the season of fire, a time to reflect on the fire that burns inside of us, that which we wish to grow.

This is also a time of letting go. Once the Solstice sun reaches its peak, it has completed its cycle, and we begin letting go as the days grow shorter again. What has come to completion in your life? What are you realising no longer serves you that you must let go of? How will letting go of these things allow you to change and grow?

The summer solstice emphasises joy, abundance, and the connection of all living things. As is traditionally done, we will celebrate around the fire, worshipping the strength of the sun through movement, singing, chanting, gathering, reading and absorbing. Join us at Wakelyns as we connect with the land and the sun and all the nourishment it offers.

You are invited to bring something to share – be that a poem, a story, a song or whatever feels in line with your connection to the Summer Solstice.
