DESCRIPTION:   \n\nThe People's Loaf - A sourdough bread workshop - led by
Kimberley Bell\, founder of Small Food Bakery\, with Henrietta Inman\, fo
under of Wakelyns Bakery\n\nAt Wakelyns\, many years ago\, began an evolut

 resilient\, dependable\, future proof. 20 years later\, this wheat\, now n

and bakers all over the UK (and beyond) to set about building localised fo

overeignty and a new kind of bread.\n\n\n\nThis one day workshop will guid
e you through the process of making a sourdough sandwich loaf using YQ Wak
elyns population grown here at its place of conception. We will learn ever
ything about the loaf from the seeds\, to the milling of the flour\, to mi
xing dough\, understanding the science of wheat doughs and sourdough leave
ning and bake the loaves in a wood oven.\n\nLead by Kimberley Bell (Small
Food Bakery) and Henrietta Inman (Wakelyns Bakery)\, we will also tell our

SUMMARY:Drawing from nature as an opportunity for insight with Laurie Nouch
 ka\, artist and yoga teacher
DESCRIPTION:Cy Twombly “Every line is the actual experience with its uniq
 ue story”\n\nMountains and Sea\, Helen Frankenthaler\,1956 - 1959\n\nCre
ation is the process of making something without knowing how it will end u
 p. It’s going on a journey without needing to know the destination. At i
ts best\, it’s the enjoyment of creating.\n\nArt\, like planting and coo
king\, in its broadest term\, is a process. The work of art that is actual
ly being created is the artist itself. A process of creation and self expl
oration.\n\nJoin Laurie\, artist and yoga teacher\, for a sensorial journe
y inspired by nature\, food and the season of summer in the outdoors at Wa
kelyns.\n\n\nThe day intends to reconnect us to the land through movement\
, meditation\, breathing\, drawing and delicious\, beautful and joyful foo
d.\n\nLaurie will open the day with some movement\, breathwork and meditat
ion to get us out of our heads and into our bodies enabling us to access a
more intuitive state as a means of creative expression and sensorial conn
ection.\n\nA guided walk around Wakelyns will then lead you into a process
of intuitive drawing. Just like making a recipe from scratch\, we will be
working with the visual form through a series of playful and freeing draw
ing exercises. Through inks made from trees and plants on the farm\, we wi
ll lay emphasis on our connection to the land through breath and felt sens
ation\, exploring the process of moving around the paper. We will blur the
hidden lines between representation and abstraction\, paying attention to
moments in between each breath as opposed to the image that is unfolding.
\n\nWe are here to open up the whole idea of what it means to draw and ult
imately\, to create.\n\nHenrietta and Maisie will then nourish us with lun
ch with food grown in the crop and tree alleys of the agroforestry system
and directly traded from food producing friends nearby. There will be an o
pportunity to hear more about the ingredients\, the growing and processing
and how this diverse way of farming inspires not only how the bakery team
work\, but every part our lives. Ultimately\, the creative process of bak
ing and cooking connect us to the land\, each other and ourselves. Henriet
ta will talk about how vital these creative connections are in the work th
at the bakery does\, whilst also explaining its place in the wider project
s at Wakelyns.\n\nThe afternoon will begin with a guided silent walk follo
wed by more time for drawing. A way to go deeper into our connection with
ourselves and nature's abundance around us.\n\nThe day will end with more
delicious tea and cake from the Wakelyns Bakery team and an opportunity fo
r group sharing.\n\nThis workshop is open to all. No experience of drawing
  needed. Drawing materials provided.

SUMMARY:Learn\, Cook\, Eat - Spring
DESCRIPTION:THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO BOOKED. THIS EVENT HAS NOW SO
LD OUT.\n\nWe're so excited to begin our Learn\, Cook\, Eat evenings this
year.\n\nThese are evenings of cooking all together with the local food we
have all around us\, and learning helpful skills to cook with the food ou
r local producers are growing all year round\, in the most exciting and de
licious ways.\n\nAll of the proceeds from this spring solstice event will
go to the charity\, Cook For Ukraine\, who work with Unicef and are helpin
g children in Ukraine during these terrible times. Come and celebrate Ukra
inian food\, food culture and cook and eat with peace\, love and in solida
rity with Ukraine.\n\nWe know that food sovereignty and food justice are n
ot only about everybody having access to food grown for human and planet h
ealth\, but also knowing what that actually means\, how and where to acces
s that food and\, once you have it\, how to cook with it. If we don't have
this knowledge and vital cooking-tool at our fingertips\, how can we nour
ish ourselves\, our friends\, our families\, and our Earth?\n\nThese will
be empowering and joyful evenings. Together we will -\n\n learn cooking a
nd baking skills and be divided into groups to cook a main course and a pu
dding\n discuss and learn about what is in season at the moment and learn
skills to adapt recipes to what is in season and what you have in your st
ore cupboard and available to you\n learn about sourcing human and planet
-nourishing foods\n lay the table and create a beautiful\, convivial spac
e together\, and eat together and celebrate the meal we have all created f
rom soil\, to hands\, to table\n\n\n\nYou might be learning with Maisie\,
seeing what is in our weekly veg share from RealVeg CSA\, and chopping\, m
ixing and cooking the main course\; you could be with Henrietta\, freshly
milling YQ wheat grains\, to make wholegrain flour\, to create a flaky pas
try for pudding\; or you could be picking flowers and foliage for the tabl
es.\n\n\n\nThese evenings are centred around food education and empowermen
t\, and we hope that they will give you some skills to then return to your
own kitchen and cook for yourself\, your family\, your friends\, and your
community\, in the most nourishing and joyful way\, for people and planet
.\n\nWe know that cooking\, eating and sharing food together breaks down b
arriers and could solve all kinds of problems that we are facing right now
\, and we can't wait to explore\, and hopefully make steps towards solving
those problems\, with you. We look forward to welcoming guests\, from far
mers\, food revolutionaries\, and great thinkers\, to our evenings too.\n\
nWith you cooking your own two-course supper and some kind friends offerin
g to help\, our tickets costs will allow us to pay our farmers and growers
for their food/ our ingredients\, and cover our bakery overheads. Therefo
re\, these evenings are not for profit for our business in the monetary se
nse of this term\, but we know that we\, and we hope that you\, will profi
t in many other ways.\n\nWe want to make this as accessible to as many peo
ple as possible. Therefore\, there are two tickets costs below\, from £6
to £30. If neither is possible for you\, please email henrietta@wakelyns.
co.uk and we will find a place at the table for you.\n\nWe hope that these
  cook-along\, educational\, local-produce celebrations will give us\, quit
e literally\, lots of food for thought\, and help us imagine\, and hopeful
ly create\, a future of villages\, towns\, cities that are full of cooks a
nd bakers in every household\, where our kitchens and the tables where we
all eat together are important once more\; we all eat three times a day\,
so why not! The effects would ripple out - if we\, as cooks and eaters\, c
reate the demand at a grassroots level to buy food grown with care for the
Earth to cook with\, we imagine more and more agroecolgical retailers\, c
afes and bakeries\, all popping up\, all working directly with agroecologi
cal farms\, in order to make our food production more sustainable\, and ou
r food consumption more just\, and delicious!\n\n\n\nWe can't wait to welc
ome to our bakery and cook and eat with you!

e togther. Then we will have a walk of the alley to see what we have in se
ason\, talk\, touch\, smell\, feel and explore what we can do with it. We'
ll all get our hands in the soil and collectively harvest the produce\, an
d then move over to an outdoor cooking space created for the day in the ve
 g patch\, where we'll cook our lunch together. Finally\, we will share a d
elicious and seasonal meal that we have all had a hand in making\, from fi
eld to fork\, surrounded by the trees of Wakelyns.\n\nWe hope that this ed
ucational introduction to growing your own food\, sourcing and seeking out
agroecoligical food producers near you and cooking with what's around you
\, will give you the starting-skills\, tools and impetus to take your food
growing\, sourcing or cooking\, or all of them\, into your own hands\, to
nourish yourselves in the most joyous and fun way\, whilst nourishing our
Earth too.\n\nWe have low income and standard tickets available. If neith
er are possible for you\, please contact henrietta@wakelyns.co.uk and we w
ill do what we can to make a space for you. See you in the field\, we can'
 t wait!\n\n
