'Morph'

Approx. 6.5cm, made from broom (Cytisus scoparius). Dies not stand.

Aside from the lovely spoons and wood block to add to the lignarian library I also managed these three from the same piece of Broom (Cytisus scoparius). I'm going to keep the left one, the middle one is going to be availabel at the exhibition and the right one is available now. I was going for a third figure but it sort of morphed into part person part bird which was rather fun . Now off to sand plates, I may be some time! ... See more

This week - willow testing! Although there will be a record somewhere about what species the willows on the farm are, I haven't found it yet. Luckily they seem similar to willows I have used before - a bright green stem with very grippy bark that cannot be peeled off by hand and a more burgundy coloured one with very peelable bark that makes a nice pink dye. Obviously allowing for all sorts of variables I thought it best to have a play to make sure (and also to test for drawing charcoal, more tests later!). Darn it all to heck 🙃 (and I used exactly those words 😆). At least the other 5 made it alright!

Finished playing with yarn weight this week, have decided that by my standards, from L-R, they are Fine, Normal, Getting Chunky and Rather Chunky. Rather chunky is good for what, rug making? It is a bit like rope when plied🤣 Maybe I could lasso something? The single ply of RC was nice, about the same thickness as Fine. I like Normal and Fine although Fine took aaages at that size! everything still a bit lumpy but I'm getting there :)
In the next couple of weeks I am going to do a time trial I think - 1 hr each of hand plying twine, drop spinning and wheel spinning to see what the difference is in terms of yardage etc. You don't need to tell me I live my life in the fast lane! ... See more
